August, 2010          The Quarry Complex

This month I am going to introduce you to a great area to have outdoor fitness adventures.  I'm referring to a complex of trails within the Morro Bay State Park.  These trails are open for hiking, running, and mountain biking and offer a nice variety of challenges and some spectacular views of the Morro Bay estuary.

May, 2010         Make Fitness An Adventure

I am passionate about fitness. There, I said it. It wasn't always that way, in fact I was in my 50's before the desire to be physically fit really hit me. Stay with me now, a little bit of my personal story is necessary here so that I can encourage you to undertake a fitness journey of your own.

Last month I outlined the advantages of working out at a gym.  Advantages are many, but not everyone has the opportunity to go to a gym for their workouts.  For some it's about money, for others it may be distance or maybe you just don't feel comfortable working out where other people can observe you.  So lets talk about  how you can get great workouts at home.

March, 2010        To Gym or Not To Gym - Fitness Works of Morro Bay

On your own, there is a broad variety of books, internet sites, and friends to help stay on a good program. It can be more difficult to retain motivation when working out alone. At the gym you can get personal help and instruction.

February, 2010        Surviving the Jesse King Memorial Paddle Race

This month I thought I would write about a real adventure in fitness that I embarked upon in October 2009, a 6-mile paddle race in the open ocean from the Cayucos Pier to Morro Rock. Paddle what you bring - kayak, canoe, stand-up paddle board, surfboard, outrigger . . .

January, 2010        Yes, You Can Be an Indoor Cyclist

If you like heart-pumping music, motivating coaches, burning fat, and getting fit, you really need to give indoor cycling a try. If you have ever been to the gym, you have probably peeked in on a cycling class in progress and wondered if you could do that. I know, it looks a little intimidating, but in reality an indoor cycling class can be just what you need it to be for you.
