IThis month the Morro Coast Audubon Society will hold its 53rd Christmas Bird Count. We will explore some of the history and logistics of this international event.

Above our heads, largely unseen, a truly remarkable journey has been taking place - the migration of billions of birds to their wintering grounds. As Fall migration is winding down here on the central coast, let us take a closer look at the incredible journeys some of these tiny birds are making.

The topic of which binocular to buy invariably arises when birders flock together. In this article we will explore the tools of the trade that every birder needs -- binoculars, and spotting scopes.

 

August, 2009             Birding in SLO

 

The richness and diversity of the bird life in San Luis Obispo County is hard to match. There have been 453 species of birds recorded in our county . . . more birds than many states can claim. Our Christmas Bird Count usually hovers around 200 species, which puts our count in the top ten in the United States and Canada.
